When C & J, an Edmonton couple who found each other through a circle of mutual friends and decided to get married, they chose one of the most iconic wedding venues in the Canadian Rockies: the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course. Nestled beside the Bow River with the Rocky Mountains rising in every direction, this setting needed no filter and no decoration. The mountains did all the work.
We had the honour of documenting their summer wedding day in our fine art documentary style, letting the story unfold naturally, capturing every quiet glance, every laugh, every moment of stillness before the ceremony began.

The Banff Springs Golf Course is one of the most photographed outdoor wedding settings in Alberta and for good reason. Surrounded by the iconic Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel (affectionately known as "the Castle in the Rockies"), the golf course offers sweeping mountain views, lush greenery in the summer months, and the Bow River as a constant backdrop.
Summer at the Banff Springs Golf Course means long, golden hours of light. The course sits in a valley, so the mountains frame you on every side, north, south, east, west. There is no bad angle. The lush fairways in summer provide a deep green contrast against the blue mountain sky, a combination that photographs beautifully in both colour and black and white.
C & J met the way many great love stories begin through friends who somehow just knew they'd be perfect together. An Edmonton couple at heart, they chose Banff not just for the scenery, but because places like the Fairmont Banff Springs feel like a world apart from everyday life. A place where a wedding day can be exactly that: a day completely outside of the ordinary.
From the moment we arrived on site, the warmth between them was palpable. They are genuinely one of the sweetest couples we've had the privilege of photographing, present with each other, calm in the chaos, and completely joyful throughout the entire day.
The gallery below captures their wedding day from the beautiful ceremony on the course, the portraits among the mountain backdrop to the reception. The ceremony setting on the golf course, with the mountain peak in the background, framed the couple in a way that felt cinematic without trying.
The summer light on the Bow River valley was extraordinary, warm and even, the kind of light that makes every portrait look effortless. And the moments between moments, a shared look, a hand held, a quiet exhale before the vows, those are the photographs that will matter most in 30 years.
The Banff Springs Golf Course is one of the top outdoor venues in Banff. Bordered by the Bow River and surrounded by Rocky Mountain peaks, it offers sweeping landscapes in every direction. In summer, the lush fairways contrast beautifully against the mountain backdrop.
Yes, we are fine art documentary wedding photographers based in Alberta, and we regularly photograph weddings at the Fairmont Banff Springs ( both hotel and golf course) and across the Canadian Rockies, including Banff, Canmore, Jasper, Lake Louise, Edmonton, and Calgary.
Summer (June through August) offers the most reliable weather, the longest daylight hours, and lush green landscapes. The Bow River valley is at its most vibrant, and the mountain wildflowers add natural colour to outdoor portraits. Fall is also very beautiful here
